Introduction
Have you ever experienced a day where your brain seemed full, like you were trying to think about job, family, chores, and life all at once? Yeah, me too. Even when you’re not moving, it can seem weighty. But here’s what I’ve learnt from experience: you don’t need a long time or a sophisticated process to refresh. Five minutes of mindfulness practice can sometimes help lessen the weight.
Here are ten easy things I do to help me calm my mind when things get too loud. You can try one or two whenever you feel like you can’t handle it.
1. Stop and take five deep breaths

This may sound too simple to be useful, yet it works.Stop what you’re doing right now. Get comfortable.Take a deep breath in with your nose and then let it out slowly through your mouth.Do this five times. Every breath is like a reset button that calms your nervous system.
2. Write It Down

Do you have a lot of thoughts in your head? Take out a notebook or open the notes app on your phone. Just start writing down what you want to say. It’s not necessary to use perfect words or full sentences.Let it go. When you let your thoughts out, they often feel better.
3. Go Outside (or Just Look Outside)

Take a look out the window if you’re inside.Look at the trees, the sky, or merely people passing by.If you can, go outside for a bit.Touch your face with the air. Listen to the small noises of nature. That little difference in how you see things can transform your mood.
4. Move a little bit, but not too much

You don’t need to work out. Just get up and stretch. Move your shoulders around. Put your arms over your head.Take your time walking around the room.Even two minutes of gentle activity will help you clear your mind.
5. Sit Still and Don’t Have a Goal

Look for a calm place. If you like, you can close your eyes and sit still. Don’t chase thoughts; just let them come and go.That minute of silence may make room, even if your mind is always on the go.
6. Let sound calm you

Sometimes, a sound that calms you down is better than quiet. You can listen to the Quran, mild rain, birds singing, or just the silence around you.Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let the sound wash over your mind.
7. Slowly sip water

Yes, even something as simple as water can help.Fill a glass and sip it slowly and with purpose.Pay attention to how cool it is, how it feels, and how it looks.Just focus on that one simple thing. It refreshes both your body and your thoughts.
8. Be nice to yourself

We are typically our own worst critics.Say something nice to yourself, such “I’m doing okay” or “It’s okay to feel this way.”Talk to them like you would to a close friend who needs consolation. You won’t believe how good it feels to heal.
9. Concentrate on One Little Thing

Choose something close by, like a pen, a coffee mug, or a leaf.Pay great attention to how it looks, feels, and sounds.Just paying attention to those little things can help you get out of your head and into the present.
10. Remind yourself that it’s okay not to have everything figured out

Sometimes we expect too much from ourselves, and life gets heavy. But you can let go for only five minutes. You don’t have to repair everything right now.Breathe. You’re doing the best you can.
Last Thoughts
You don’t necessarily need a huge cure to feel better.Five minutes of quiet, focused time can change your whole day. When your mind is full again, look at this list. Choose one thing. Give it a shot. That little break can be just what your emotions and mind need to get back on track.
